The Summer Nationals Saturday:
It rained all day, the closest we got was the fireup road, then we got rained on again, we towed back and waited for the morning.
Sunday:
And sunday brought sunshine all day! Which is definitely what we needed after the soaking we had yesterday. The first pairing we were to race was against Bob Glassup in the Xtreme Racing Fiat. We pulled the burnouts, staged and launched, with myself getting away quicker but only just. I stayed out ahead all down the track to win with a 7.60 @ 175mph, but that was where the fun just starts.
I pulled the parachute.... and nothing! I stood on the brakes hard and then the car started bouncing very violently. I got the car stopped with about 10 feet of track to spare, the fire crews said they were ready to pull me out of the sand pit. When I got out of the car the chute had come out of the bag but got caught in the wheelie bar on the last strut which wasn't covered by the net... Racers tape to the rescue!
We got the car back and everything was fine. Because the meeting was cut short due to Saturdays rain, we went straight into the 1st v 2nd, and 3rd v 4th runoffs, and we were told we are to race Tony Betts in Venom for the 3rd and 4th place race. After staging I got away much quicker than Tony, but the difference was made up by 400ft as he charged past to record a 6.79 to my 7.64.
That was it really for the Summer Nationals, there are no photos as of yet, but I have posted videos from different parts of the weekend on the videos site.
Next meeting: Nostalgia Nationals at Shakey.
